    No...They seldom pick their own roles.  They are usually offered roles and then they either decline or accept.

    But the whole point of being an actor is that they can play roles not related to their actual age.

    (Unrelated but I saw your answer and was just thinking this - - would you want to see a film adaptation of "Beach Music?" I don't think I would like a film version!)

    The film rights were bought right when the book was published and Brad Pitt was cast as Jack.  UA has the rights for a bunch more years so I guess it could still happen.  It might not have enough bloody stuff,  shooting, bang bang, fuckin this and that, nudity and sex to make it anymore.  It would be a great independent project but it would need a hollywood budget.  So.......
