What's the proper way to shut down someone who is hitting on you?

For example, if you're out and about and someone comes over and starts being flirtations- is there a polite way to send them packing that won't hurt their feelings?

  • Just say it flat out you're not interested.
Though I usually just flirt back regardless if I'm interested or not.

Saying you're not interested only works when they're forward. I'm more wondering how to get rid of them without sounding presumptuous or rude, like, the second they walk up and start talking.

  • Side eye and growl.   Works every time.

    Hmmm....

    LOL

The second they start talking? SNEEZE in their faces?  Oh no, I just read Randy.
He, of course, made this paltry offer look totally lame in comparison.

If I am out and about there is no question that I would walk away.  I don't need to be nice or not.  I did not invite this, trust me.

If they are just being nice, I would be nice back.  If they are just trying to lure me into something I am not interested in?  I owe them nothing.

Bugger off then, you flirty thing.

Try intense flatuence accompanied by lots of belching and spitting phlegm all over the place. Oh, and keep scratching your crotch while mumbling, "Darn 99-cent store herpes medicine ain't worth the money I spent on it!"

Usually, the guy who is hitting on me is already doing that, so it has no effect.

No, we are NOT kindred spirits. So get your phlegm-spitting, crotch-scratching, belching, flatulent self away from me!

I usually started talking about my boyfriend...(whether I actually had one or not) or would claim just got out of a relationship and needed time by myself.
Now, I just talk about husband and multiple kids, grandkids...

That is GOOD.  The BOYFRIEND line.  I forgot that one.  That is great because there is just nowhere else to go for the guy and he cannot be insulted because it had nothing to do with him.

Honestly, if you don't want to be bothered, just say you're married.  If they question why you aren't wearing a ring, look at them with a scowl on your face and tell him you aren't a slave to tradition.

FYI, I'm the one who starts the flirting.  My friend that I was recently visiting wouldn't leave me alone because she was afraid I was going to embarrass her at her regular stores.  lol.   BTW, if I've made a miscalculation and he turns really creepy, I just walk away.

I have a best friend just like you.  She has no shame. LOL  She goes for it.  I love her and love you too.

Thank you.  And that's exactly what my friend says, I have no shame.  She left me at a register to look at something and when we left the store she said, "you hit on that cashier didn't you?"  lol.  He was a young Jaimaican guy in his 20's.  He was hot.  What else am I supposed to do?  He definitely liked the attention. :-D
