Dr. Phil says obesity is a disease. Other than legitimate medical conditions, isn't getting fat a choice?

After all, nobody is force feeding these people. What do you think?

    i think so and sometimes i think cancer can be a choice too when people will smoke and wont quit

    There are many reasons, just like for alcohol consumption.  Some people can eat twice or three times as much and not gain a pound.  Some people have slow metabolisms.  

    Most people do not understand what a disease even is.

    If your body is not operating harmoniously, some kind of disorder, usually some kind of disease is happening.  It can be of the body, or mind or even spirit.  All three must function harmoniously or something negative transpires.

    I think both views are correct. The wrongness here is saying/implying that the reason is ALWAYS the same.

    As far as the medic's concerned, if it's a problem, it ought to be fixed, so it probably counts as a disease in the old-fashioned sense. However it's not his place to moralise on the life choices leading to it, although he may well recommend activities calculated to help solve the problem.
