Do you feel safe walking the streets of your small town or big city?

Back in the early 80's, I would go out running (training) for marathons late at night. Didn't matter what part of town I was in, I felt fast enough that no one could catch me. No one bothered me.

  • I would say most cities have a section not to walk in especially at night. I have no fear in my town at any time although I am about 10 miles away. Appreciate the time.

  • I live in a mid-size town and I have no problem walking around here, even at night. I've never felt unsafe here.  This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at January 15, 2018 5:02 PM MST

  • Same here, I don't live in the town but no worry walking in it at any time. Thanks for the answer.

  • Yes.
The local village has a total pop around 400, but mostly you see only 5 or 6 in the main street.

Central town in the valley services around 80,000, but it's the same.
No rapes, no hassles in the streets, no inappropriate remarks, no robberies, and no violence.
In fact, the nearest police station is an hour's drive away.
People are very relaxed, open, trusting and friendly.
In these respects, it's a great place to live.

  • Seems you are in about an ideal area to live. Should be more like it.

I live in a relatively safe neighborhood.  We had one homicide 5 or 6 years ago, but there have been burglaries and robberies.  I rarely go out alone at night, but if I absolutely had to, I would feel pretty safe.  Many of the buildings I would pass have doormen and I live on a fairly well-travelled street, so there are always people around.

  • Your  description seems to be well populated and low crime with enough people with an eye on the area. Thanks. Must be a lot of apartments in that spot.

I live on a street that connects two major highways.  My side is mostly apartment buildings while the other side is private houses.  I've lived here for more than 40 years and while the composition of the area has changed, it has remained very stable.

  • Sad to hear that.  Some places are getting that way. Thanks.

We live in what might be described as a wealthy suburb and its quite safe. But still I won't walk out in the middle of the night.  But I go out jogging at 5:30 A.M.
