So how much American steel did donnyjack use in his buildings? Didn't he favor the use of CHINESE steel? How stupid does he think we are?

On the other hand, how stupid are those who believe whatever he does is just and fair and smart and honorable and pro-America? Very, mediocrely or not at all?

I rather doubt that much Chinese steel girders ever made it into N.Y. Harbor.  The construction people would probably reject the Chinese product, knowing that it is inferior to American steel. The steelworkers are proud and would likely reject the stuff. I personally have seen the difference between the two types.  I'd take the American stuff every time.

From what I read doofus don used a lot of Chinese steel bh. Probably because it was  way cheaper and he is a cheapskate unless he is spending other people's money. Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday! :)

These are the top 10 countries we import steel from. China isn't on the list. Tariffs should be reduced to zero for the top four.

    1 Canada 4.3 16%
    2 Brazil 3.6 13%
    3 South Korea 2.7 10%
    4 Mexico 2.4 9%
    5 Russia 2.4 9%
    6 Turkey 1.7 7%
    7 Japan 1.4 5%
    8 Germany 1.0 4%
    9 Taiwan 0.9 3%
    10 India 0.6 2%
    Others 5.9 22%

Could you give reasoning please. Tariffs should only be introduced for sound economic and not politcal reasons.

Sure. We tariff them, they tariff back. We don't want to piss off the Canadians. I'll change that to the top ten, excluding Russia. I'm a believer in free global trade amongst  civilized nations. It has little to do with politics.

The Russian share shows that US sanctions are a case of do what I say not what I do.

Just shows that the  Europeans are complete idiots for  kowtowing to US sanctions on Russia at much greater economic cost to themselves than what the US bears. .

Probably true. I was just showing that we don't import as much as we make here.

It's irrelevant in any case.  Businessmen only have a moral duty to abstain from something intrinsically immoral. There is nothing intrinsically immoral about buying steel at a good price. Businessmen have a duty to their company's interests. Presidents have a duty their country's interests.

Expecting businessmen to disadvantage themselves out of some kind of selfless public service is typical leftist thinking. The selfless person achieves nothing. They are just destroyed by those who aren't selfless and their country is not advantaged one bit.

Even if you do see his position as hypocritical, SO WHAT? Being a hypocrite doesn't make a person WRONG. If a man preaches fidelity, and then cheats on his wife, does that mean fidelity is not a good thing? If a man preaches honesty, and then lies, does that mean honesty is not a good thing?

Trump has asserted that tariffs are in the national interest of the U.S.. You have done nothing to make a counter argument.

The left know Trump is right about U.S. interests. They just don't care because they're globalist trash who want to undermine the U.S. and promote socialist world government. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at March 7, 2018 6:48 AM MST
