If the earth is round as some people say, why dont the oceans run down and drop off ?

Just try pouring water on a basketball and see what happens. Yet the oceans are thousands of meters deep, obviously the oceans would run off a round earth.

Enoch (in the bible) had it right. In the morning the sun comes out of a door in the east, then it travels over the Earth, and in the evening it leaves through another door in the west

A basketball neither has its own gravitational field nor a moon effecting its tides.

Well all objects have a gravitational field, but relative to the earths, the basketball is not great enough to affect the earth's gravity.

Edit:  For the purposes of measuring gravity, when you do the math, spheres act as if their total mass were located at the center of the sphere.  The earth "attracts" everything along a line of force directed from your point on the surface (including the basketball you are holding as you pour the water over it) toward the center of the earth. If you travel on the 405 (QEW) highway northbound from St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, you can watch the city of Toronto rise slowly out of Lake Ontario as you move closer. The waters of Lake Ontario must be curved for this to happen.

Surely you have heard of mirages, places where different air temperatures makes light bend so things we see are not where we see them.

Yes. But the city of Toronto is not a mirage!

At the lower depths of the ocean pressure makes salt water very dense and sticky like molasses so the ocean waters do not flow away; the oceans are stuck to the bottom.

How does Walter run if it ain't got no legs.....I would think it would be quite a feet to even manage a foot ......when mostly all it can do is run down a hole when it drains away :( This post was edited by Nice Jugs at April 2, 2018 6:38 PM MDT
