What do you think might be the most challenging item for engineers/archetects to have to design?

For Henry Ford's people it was to design an efficient 8 cylinder engine.

Hmmmm ... I'm going to say it's something that should withstand a large earthquake without collapsing, like a dam.

I worked in a ten story building, in SoCal, that was built on rollers ... earthquake resistant.

"I've worked directly with engineers and let me tell you ... they can design anything!  The hard part is building it!

Sensible sized housing where families can grow rather then appalling tiny rabbit hutches just so they can cram more units on the building plot....
Its appauling what's being built in England now just to cram in profits....there are estates where there is no parking for vistors or tradesmen.....

Are you sure that lack of parking is the fault of architects?

In the US, it is a growing trend among liberal city councils to "encourage" alternate transportation use by limiting the amount of parking and traffic lanes.

The other day, I heard a report of a brand-new apartment complex that didn't have tenant parking ... and how they were having a difficult time finding any renters, despite a housing shortage.  Imagine that!  People not wanting to rent housing without somewhere to park their vehicle.

The Golden Gate Bridge was so carefully designed that they had to wait until an exact time in the afternoon to put in the final bolts. The bridge had to expand in the afternoon warmth to make the holes line up.

Be nice if they could find some of the sunken ships and raise them to the surface.
