Have you signed to donate your organs to save the lives of others after you die?

Why/why not?
What are the pro’s and con’s?

I am an organ donor. It’s even in my driver’s license. If I’m dead my organs are no longer of use to me. Why not give them to someone who is alive who needs them and can have their life saved? I don’t see any cons in this. The possibility of saving the life or lives of one or more person is the only positive that matters. It’s one last selfless deed I can do for others.

I am an organ donor. If a piece of me can live on to benefit another life after I’m done with it, that’s a great thing.

I am a donor, but I have a sister who firmly believes that the doctors will not try as hard to save you if they know they can harvest your organs.

Your sister's theory would be a good one for a Ph.D. student to investigate and publish.
I suspect that if she was proven right, the number of donors would drop dramatically,
but being intelligent enough to realize that, doctors would not take such risks.

Then again, the days of new organs vat grown from one's own stem cells are not far away. This post was edited by inky at February 3, 2019 6:21 AM MST

I am donating my corpse to a local teaching hospital. My organs are too pickled to donate, but my body might help med students.

Your body might help the med students learn why it's not a good idea to pickle organs.

I got a shock in aged care training when taught that the organs of the very old get an extra half a life of longevity when transplanted into young bodies - but the young bodies only get half the life out of the old organs compared to if their own had been healthy.

Fascinating. I can see the med students' faces when they slice and dice me.

I am donating my body to science fiction. The left overs are up for grabs by anyone who doesnt mind used parts.

  • I am not an organ donor currently. Not sure, just didn't like the idea of it. Seemed kind of morbid. But I'm willing to change my mind about that.

If I donate organs for transplant -how could I be completely dead if those organs are still alive and kicking in someone's body?
Anyway my intent is to donate my body to medical science.

I am an organ donor.  I won't be needing them at that point.

Yes, but not just my organs, my entire body will be turned over to medical science so that they can study my awesomenisitude and pass it on to the rest of humanity.  I'm cool like that.
