There is rain associated with Hurricane Florence, right? Why do radars not detect much of anything happening on/off the east coast?

Thanks for your explanation.  I was just curious about there not being much seemingly going on out there.  Had to hope.

I just want to add that I thought all of that ran off satellite imagery.

Satellites look down from space (clouds) while radar is ground based (beams go somewhat horizontally).  

Hurricanes are rather compact compared to frontal systems which are usually narrow and extending out from the parent low pressure system.

I am sure by now (Thorsday) they have radar images, not that they would matter. All one needs to do is look outside.

I know you did...and quite well. I am always sarcastic. Around here the weather forecasters are so crappy, I just look out the window.

The local stations started adding percentages of percentages of bad weather events happening.  The window view is most accurate, though it is nice to have advanced warning of being clobbered.  

The percentage of rain is always 50/50. It either will or it won't.

That's alright, I enjoy sarcasm. 

Most forecasters rely on statistics, computer models and such to make their forecast.  The only window they look out of any more is the one made by Microsoft.
