Discussion»Questions»Weather» There is rain associated with Hurricane Florence, right? Why do radars not detect much of anything happening on/off the east coast?
There are no radar sites offshore, and those onshore have a limited range. Much of the forerunning clouds are just high clouds (cirrus type) that don't contain precipitation.
The local stations started adding percentages of percentages of bad weather events happening. The window view is most accurate, though it is nice to have advanced warning of being clobbered.
Most forecasters rely on statistics, computer models and such to make their forecast. The only window they look out of any more is the one made by Microsoft.
