No.  Unless you consider being raped mugged.  Which I have been five times.  Six if you count that once was by two men.

I don't think necessarily. Both you just have to deal with to get over. You are victimized but you have to do what you can both in how you handle it and how you hold to get past them.  Otherwise you stay a victim and the bastards win.

Sorry you had to experience something like that. I hope they were punished.

Hi.  I think people need to understand that is not at all uncommon for us.  And though many of us choose to deny it or sweep it under the rug for our own sanity it does still affect us.

While I appreciate everyone's efforts at sympathy I do think too bad that it comes because we have been victimized.  I did not and do not wish to think of myself as a victim.  So I think it is imperative we learn how to work through or process what happen to us for our own well-being.  Which we each have to do in our own ways though we can get help from each other. Otherwise we risk becoming stuck in it.

my2cents you write about "punishment" but for me that is not the answer.  Many years ago when it first happened I was all for that, full of righteous anger,  and brought charges which resulted in my having to endure a high profile hearing and trial that put my whole life, as it was then,  under public scrutiny.  For nothing.  I would never do that again nor would I recommend it to anyone else.  It is private and the fact that I choose to discuss it publicly is only an attempt to help others by being honest about my experience.  Really when I think of my assailants, and I do still think about them though not very often, I have to see them as pretty pathetic and far more in need of compassion in their miserable lives than I am or even was.  I have been privileged to live a generally happy and fulfilling life with a lot of love and success.  God knows what kind of lives they have had.  So I can't see punishments and deterrents s any kind of real solution but I think that can only come when we learn to respect our mutual personhood rather than exploit it.

Almost but I thought fast and started pretending I was gay I did things like fan my face with my hand and saying - oh my oh my. Then I said  - well honey I don't have any money but if you want to get lucky - then I glanced over to the bushes across the street - when he glanced over at the bushes I clocked him in the side of the head with the six pack of Lucky Lager that I had in a plastic bag. I'm probably one of the few people in the World that was lucky enough to have their life saved thanks to alcohol. Cheers!

Don't think I would be able to "clock" anyone with anything. Can't imagine doing that.

Well in a mugging it's best to give them your money but on the other hand that could get expensive so a Taser might be a good  investment. Cheers!

Your life was saved by gay stereotypes, too! Ha!
    ;)

(But there is truth in some stereotypes, too, I guess sometimes -- I just got done posting "Oh, my.")

I like to think it was my acting skills that saved me because I was flamboyant that night. My only 2 regrets about the night is - it was a stereotype of thing so that was bad. My other regret was not having a permanent marker so I could write - I'm a scumbag on his forehead. Cheers!

You don't want to try to mug a person like me because I don't give a f**k. This post was edited by Zack at September 16, 2018 2:38 PM MDT

  • No, but we had a black panther/jaguar that hung around for a few years.  Both times I saw it it was lying on top of my chicken-shed.  I've wondered what ever became of it.

No, but close call when cycling in to work callout at 2 am. Accelerated away from the mob.

I was robbed of my jewelry and money, but not hurt, by a kid who couldn't have been more than 16 years old.  He was more afraid than I was, so I remained calm, gave him what he was looking for and we  both walked away.

My motto...Never mess with someone whose capabilities are unknown to you. Like the basketball player in the shower in high school. He tried to sucker punch me. Let's just say I embarrassed him.
