I don't know about other countries, but here in the US we have an annual spelling bee and geography bee.

Do you think we should have an annual grammar bee?

I can nominate two people. No disrespect intended.

Neither have I. I pick and choose. I got Randy twice in one day last week.

Most of mine come from my iPad not keeping up with my typing and I‘m not patient enough to wait to proofread. Other times I’m just lazy.

My iPad is terrible about changing words, puts multiple words together, and randomly capitalizes letters. I need to be more patient. This post was edited by Rizz at September 26, 2018 11:14 PM MDT

And everyone asks why I keep my old flip-phone. I call it a 2-way radio.

This is the only site my iPad tablet does this with. My iPhone only does it on this site too. This is the only Q&A site I use though. This post was edited by Rizz at September 27, 2018 1:34 AM MDT

  • I don't provide unsolicited corrections (not my style), but on matters grammatical and linguistic I am a font of knowledge. :)

Who "solicits" corrections?  That's just plain whack, yo.

Very simple. Any mistake begs to be corrected. That's solicitation enough for me!

Font comes from the Latin fons. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself.)

Why not? I'm sure many of them would attend.  We should have a great-grammar bee too, although entrants might be rather scarce.

    I wish!
Wouldn't it be great to be able to get 3 halves from one whole! :)

Would be so lovely to see you rich enough to fill your bucket list.

    Intellectual property is vital,
but sadly I think the poor genius is often lucky to get even 2% of the royalties.

The second sentence is a question; needs to end with a question mark.
      Comma after the word 'sadly'.

The second sentence has the grammatic form of a sentence, but being a rhetorical exclamation is not actually asking a question - hence the exclamation mark.

Agreed, a comma would be correct after sadly.

Rhetorical or not, there's no way an exclamation point is appropriate for a question. If the sentence is an exclamation (declarative), then it takes an exclamation point!  See how that works?

    Hmm. Hadn't thought of that.
Stu Bee and Randy D would probably love to be the judging panel, and be well paid for it -
and maybe they'd reach national celebrity level for their statuses as grammarians.
They might even become so busy that we'd lose them here. :(
