Actually by refusing to declare a disaster would deny Fed aid.

CA needs to figure out how to stop these fires. They are the only state who is suffering from these constantly. CA should take responsibility and fix it.

Fire started on Federal land, so there isn't a damned thing CA gov could have done about it. Neither could the gov have stopped the beetles which caused trees to die, providing dead wood for fuel.
Apportioning blame and tweeting threats is NOT helpful, and that was His Royal Orangeness' first response - to attack.

Yes, but CA environmental laws tie the hands of those in Fed management.

“There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly fires except that forest management is so poor. ....Remedy now or no more Fed payments”.
Surely you remember this shining pearl.

Did it take public backlash from this stupid comment to wring out some scripted compassion? So gallant and heartfelt on twitter.

They do need to manage themselves better. No other states have these issues.

CA congressman agreed with President Trump but worded it more PC. President Trump is not PC and never will be. He did not take funds and did what was necessary to release emergency Fed funds.
    Actions matter...talk is cheap.

This is not true. There have been numerous large wildfires in other western states. Oregon, Idaho and Montana have had multiple fires raging this year alone. The difference is how many fewer people live in these more remote areas.

There is no talk cheaper than Trump’s deranged narrative, i.e., Californians are to blame, not years of drought and a warming climate.
There might be less to disapprove of if not being PC was Trump’s only offense. It pales in the shadow of his chronic dishonesty.

  • Yes, and Colorado as well.    Because one Congressman made a comment though... hey, let's run with that and continue with callous comments, while the fire is still destroying those silly lives.

Does not even compare to what happens in CA. Even the Gov has recently stated they need to manage the forest better.

  • Not the point and you know it.   I don't care whom you claim said what. We are talking about the President here.   As President, the time to ***** and complain about it is not in the middle of a crisis. As President, it is not OK to threaten to with hold funds, it does not matter if you feel it's ok now, since he changed his mind and"talk is cheap" or not, or whatever you said previously.  It is not OK, and  if you still cannot comprehend that, I feel sorry for you, and I am done.  Period. End of conversation. This post was edited by my2cents at November 17, 2018 9:31 PM MST

You know very well those weren't his first comments on the CA fires.  First he blamed the victims.  When the backlash came from every quarter, someone in his administration wrote the second comments for him to read because he doesn't have the empathy that a normal person would have to write such comments by himself.

His first action was to declare an emergency for counties. This was before the tweets of any kind.
CA does need to do a better job of forest management. (obviously) That is a fact. Gov Brown knows it, CA congress people know it and so does Trump. The only difference is wording.

If you were one of the people who lost everything in a fire, would you want to hear your president say that it's your fault?  I doubt it.

It is not the people of CA fault and President Trump did not blame them. The blame belongs to the government of CA. They have repeatedly failed their people.

And the people are the ones who have elected those officials, so in effect, he's blaming the victims.

So are you to blame for Trump and everything he does/doesn't do?

No because I didn't vote for him and if it wasn't for the Electoral College, which has outlived its usefulness, he wouldn't be the president.

Why do you assume that the victims of the fires voted for those in office in CA? Again, blame is on the government of CA not the victims.

The electoral college proved its purpose. This post was edited by my2cents at November 17, 2018 6:32 PM MST

I seriously doubt that those in SoCal voted bigly for Trump.  But Northern Cali probably did and now they also have fires.  The lands that are most likely burning are federal lands - FEDERAL, so it's Trump's administration that is to blame for reducing the funds for clearing brush and dead trees, irrespective of who voted for him.  If CA doesn't get sufficient funds to do that job, is it their fault?  Cali gets back a lot less from the feds than it pays in.  Maybe they should just keep more of their money.  And, lastly, but not least - when such an enormous disaster hits, so may people are displaced, so many dead, so many missing - the president should not be pointing his finger at whose fault it is.  He should be consoling those affected, but we all no that consolation and empathy are not in his wheelhouse.

And the Fed lands also must abide by the laws passed by CA in regards to forest management. They have effectively tied their hands.

M2C, has it completely eluded you how pointless and inappropriate it is to place blame in the first place?
You are rationalizing Trump’s impulsive scapegoating, and to no avail. He was wrong in his assessment, and made a fool of himself in his callous statement.

No that blame lies in the laps of the Republicans who allowed Trump to ride roughshod over their party.

Is this where your thoughts go? Republicans and their supporters should have been bright enough to recognoze that Trump the Troglodyte would not bring honor to their cause and coalesced around a more civil, qualified, intelligent man.
Hillary was a terrible candidate, Trumps election was as more an indictment of her than a validation of Trump, and his “performance” in office has left no cause to think otherwise. Republicans nominated a shameless narcissist to govern America who clearly cares very little for Americans.
