What do you think about that bible-thumping nut-case who got himself killed on that island?

    I was just thinking about him a few moments ago.  My opinion is he "felt" called to go to the island

    and share Jesus. When the natives began throwing spears he walked right into the line of fire.

    His faith was incredible, he so believed that he was called, he knew Jesus would protect him, no

    matter what. In the natural I would say he was sadly mistaken, he was not called at all.  In the

    spiritual, he was definately compelled to go that island.  The voyage there, in part, was obviously

    his appointment to go home.  How his walk into danger affected the natives, I'll never know but I'll

    bet they are still talking about it.
    Sometimes you don't see how a seed is planted.  He gave his life  for his beliefs. I can't see a man who had such faith whose life

    would be freely given with no spiritual return.

  • This is what being delusional does to people. He never should have attempted to make contact with that tribe. History shows that it never fares well for natives when so-called "Christians" try to force their beliefs upon them. Good for the natives for protecting themselves.

    I think he knew what could happen to him going somewhere that was prohibited and that something bad happened to him when he got there was pretty predictable.  If he was willing to die for his faith, more power to him.  Personally, I take the side of the natives.

    He could have smited a bunch of them, or sent Himself in mortal form to be sacrificed to Himself in His own name.

    The former, I fear, is still in play, the latter is really not.

    Don, if there is one thing I can always count on, it is you bringing dry, logical synopsis to a conversation and/or question.  It is a talent I could learn from.  I tend to listen to all sides and forget the question at hand, entirely! ;)
