  • We recycle, because the bins and the service are free.  Otherwise, people like me wouldn't bother.

When you just came on, or when I just first saw you, I thought that picture of Vivian Vance was you.

I didn't realize who it really was.

  • I change my pic here so much, I assume it's this current Imogene Coca on the telephone pic?    That is funny. I only wish I had half of her talent.   She and Sid Cesar were a fantastic comedy team - one of my favorites.
Oops sorry, I just re-read, and I believe you actually meant that pic that "surprised lady"pic. I don't believe it was Vivian Vance, but I can see that with her blonde hair, it may kind of resemble her.   That is funny.   Vivian Vance was hilarious as well. Me too.  I just thought of Xaviar Cougat and Abbie Lane, before Charo.   I remember Keely Smith and the guy.  What was his name again?  Louis Prima.

And of course, George Burns and Gracie Allen.  The best of the best they were. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at December 20, 2018 7:07 AM MST

  • I remember Abbie Lane and Cougat, wow,  two names I haven't  heard in a long time.  I don't know if I remember Keely Smith, but I will Google to see.

  • Oh yes, Louis Prima. I wasn't familiar with him, except I believe I saw him on an old episode of What's My Line.

Goodness that is getting back there. Cugat was popular in the 30s and 40s.  Charo was much younger and later made disco records.  Keely Smith I thought could sing and I guess was around for a long time.  Never understood why anyone liked Louis Prima who was around as early as the 1930s.  But I understand people still buy (download) his recordings.  People my age had our own music which was The Rascals and the Monkees and Motown.  But have heard older singers I thought were good.  Eddy Howard, June Christy, Ella Fitzgerald.  Betty Carter.  Perhaps my parents would have known who all those people were.

  • Per the NBC Nightly News, few plants in America actually recycle our plastic.  We ship most of it to China where they have found a way to recycle it cost-effectively.  My guess is the result is the flimsy crap containing bottled water. :P

No, I don't recycle, straight to the landfill with it every Monday.

A recent 60 Minutes program told that we are no longer shipping our recyclables to China.  They no longer want it.  We are shipping them to other Asian countries though.

The UK is the same and in the London area a big population area most of the items carefully recycled by nice people actually goes to Landfill dumps as it is cheaper.
Recycle is the biggest con ever.

I think it wouldn't be a con if there was a financially rewarding way for them to recycle the plastic into something useful.  Right now, it seems to be cost prohibitive.

I do because our buildings are required to do so.  If I don't, then the porter has to do it and he has enough to do.

Listen, I grew up with people who would throw the empty can out the door and forget it. I consider myself a good citizen for just putting my trash in a can and rolling it out to the street where a truck can pick it up.
