  • Is the Pope Catholic?  I lived most of my life in Central IL ... YEE HAAA!  Now I live in Virginia ... YEE HAAA +++.  I have to say though .. some of my favorite people are rednecks.  They're either your best friend or your worst enemy!  :)

I knew plenty of them when I was on active duty in the Marine Corps, especially when I was stationed in the South, they were present both on base and off.

Yes. Supposedly I am one and so is my whole family. Even though my father is from the midwest and my mother from the north. I can say honestly that the only person in the family with a red neck is my father. And, I'm sure that's part of his "farmers tan".

I lived in Georgia for a while. People there are just like you see in the movies except the punks are not a bit cheerful and the sheriff is not a bit stupid.

I lived on the Canadian prairies (Manitoba) for 30 years where they are all rednecks. On the west coast -especially Vancouver there are none.
Funny thing about rednecks is they must like joke & gag stuff a lot because in Winnipeg there were 14 joke & gag retail outlets  (stuff like snake popping out of a can sort of thing) and I only found one in Vancouver.

    I live in Arizona.  Ok?

However, this is the FIRST time a Democrat won as Senator and a woman too.   There is hope for us.

I came from Chicago.  The most Democratic city in the world.  It was not easy spending the last two decades here.

Depends on how you would define that.  Some of my southern relatives consider themselves that and are proud of it.  Which does not mean necessarily that they fit any stereotypes which can be made fun of.  Many of my ancestors were part of the general fabric of southern life - farmers, landowners, sharecroppers, law enforcement, slaveholders, servants, etc. - but would not have considered themselves that. Because it was a more pejorative designation.  Has only been more recently that people have considered that as a mark of distinction.

SO?  You think red necks are SOUTHERN?  Oh brother.  Who in America lives in one spot for their entire lives?  I am in the West.  There are more rednecks here than anyplace.  And I came from the North.  There are more rednecks in Chicago then there are in Nashville any day.

Perhaps I misunderstand.  Have always understood that to be a southern designation.  My father's family were yes from Tennessee and we grew up hearing about our "rednecky" cousins there.  Later some of them referred to themselves as "rednecks"  proudly.  I never met anyone in the north or in CA or anywhere else who so considered themselves.  My own upbringing was suburban New Jersey country club/horsey social set and we never called ourselves that.

Nope and I consider that a good thing because the ones I have met were racist piglets. This post was edited by Zack at January 29, 2019 10:16 PM MST
