The only canned vegetable I will eat is sweet corn, when fresh is out of season. I will also eat frozen veggies when fresh is not available.

  • I like frozen too, and you‘re right, corn isn’t that bad from a can. I forgot about corn.

It would be a good 'emergency' food. It keeps forever and has good carbs and water. This post was edited by Element 99 at March 19, 2019 2:30 PM MDT

Eating canned vegetables, a freak does not make.

I buy canned diced tomatoes, tomato sauce regularly.  That's all for canned vegetables.  I might buy some for something in particular like a green bean casserole.

I eat mostly frozen vegetables.  They have more nutrients than fresh veggies that have been harvested more than 48 hours.  Most frozen vegetables are harvested and frozen within 24 hours.  Also, the fresh produce has been messed around with, stored in buggy ratty warehouses, and sprayed with crap to make them shine.  Then the market wets them every few hours to encourage bacteria growth.  If I want fresh veggies I try to buy them off of a farmer's truck.  When I go to my mother's place I pass such a farmer.  I stop most of the time.

When I lived in Washington I shopped sometimes at Fred Meyer.  Their produce was great....presented in boxes and was dirty...I mean dirty.  I knew it came right from the farm.  The last time I was one of their stores (not in Washington) their produce department looked no different that Winn Dixie or Publix.  Aldi now sells all organic produce which is a good option too. • I like frozen, not that medley crap, but the bags of all broccoli or carrots ect. I think canned veggies are mushy garbage, except corn.

I haven't had canned vegetables since I began cooking for myself. After reading Thriftymaid's post, I am re-thinking eating fresh produce.

  • Macaroni and Cheese is always listed with the vegetables, and served with them, so it counts as one right?  It's an honorary vegetable, right?  I know it is.  It has to be.  Mmm, Mmm, Mmm!

I grow a lot of our vegetables so their KC and the Sunshine  Band fresh when I eat them. We freeze some of them for winter too - not as nice as fresh but I'm always glad I have them. Cheers and happy weekend!
