Doesn't using our military for domestic purposes violate the POSSE COMITATUS ACT? So what right? So what if it does?

    Military is used all the time for domestic purposes. They are allowed to assist law enforcement with background tasks. They are not supposed to act as law enforcement. 

    I have seen them help with natural disasters. Help with border enforcement.

  • If you're referring to the act signed into law in 1878 by President Hayes, that legislation prevents the use of the military to enforce domestic policy and was created to end enforced reconstruction and military occupation in the post civil war south. It was one of Hayes' campaign promises and the chief reason he was selected as POTUS by a Congressional committee investigating possible fraud in the 1876 election. It brought to a close 10 years of military governance.
