Susten Pass, Switzerland, altitude 2260 m.

A blue lake trapped in the ancient glacial tarn, liquid and flat, seemed to wait.
    Freezing,
Japanese marathon cyclists arrived in tee shirts and neon lycra
    and sped past.
A lowering sun radiated apricot shafts of light, broke through clouds,
against the sheer verticals of black rock peaks,
    lit the snow in gold.
I felt microscopic against the vastness of the earth.
I felt high on the ozone,
as if a god permeated the whole of existence, even me.

I'd have to say 9 to 10 thousand feet up in Rockie Mountain National Park. Spectacular beauty and humbling experience. :)

11,000 ft. I believe.  That was skiing in Colorado.  We stayed on a ranch that was at 8800 ft.  I had serious altitude sickness and had to be removed from the mountain.  I never went back but my husband loved skiing and still goes on two ski trips each year.  My kids were avid skiers too.  That was something they did with their Dad.  I've spent time in the mountains in Europe too but not as high; never had trouble again after that time in Grant, CO.

My house now is 9 ft. above sea level.  This post was edited by Thriftymaid at May 28, 2019 7:10 AM MDT

Not very high, probably at college in Ithaca, NY. "Far above Cayuga's waters" is approximately 900 feet above sea level.

I've been in the French Alps, but I couldn't tell you the elevation. I've also traveled in the Copper Canyon in Mexico and I believe it was somewhere around 8000 feet above sea level.
