I don't get the "existential" in the following. Per Joe Biden "Donald Trump is an "existential" threat! WHY NOT DUMP EXISTENTIAL?

Why not say the sb prez is the biggest threat to our democracy we've ever faced. Isn't he?

Or the sb prez is the most existential presidential confidential essential deferential residential threat. Something that rhymes mebbe even though it makes no sense?

How does "existential" describe what the sb prez really is...a CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER?

America is a Republic, not a democracy. Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution states, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government.” Yet many people often mistakenly refer to America as a democracy. In a "democracy", all laws and decisions of government are made by the majority. This is not how the United States is governed. The key difference between a democracy and a republic lies in the limits placed on those in the government by the law. In a republic there exists a constitution, or charter of rights, to protect certain inalienable rights that cannot be taken away— even if a majority of voters demand it.

That being stated, I do agree about there being a threat to the United States. However, that threat comes from places that many folks are oblivious to. The biggest threats/clear and present dangers to America today comes from the left wing liberal politicians, Joe Biden being one of them, the left wing liberal media, and the complacent ill-informed voters. As always, just my opinion. :)

  • Good comprehensive answer. The ancient Greeks learned that democracy just didn't work. They were reduced to holding elections every week to decide every issue  great and small. Direct democracy isn't feasible.

I agree with what the Constitution says about what form of government the United States has. Do I agree with John Podesta? The Progressive Socialist Democrat John Podesta who along with his many fellow Progressive Socialist Democrats that are trying to destroy the United States from within? No, I don't agree with him. Nor do I trust him any further than I can throw Detroit. :)

If something is existential, it has to do with human existence.

I would agree then that Trump is an existential threat.

Existence? Existential has to do with our existence? Overdosing on drugs is an existential threat then right? Or promiscuous sex? Or guns? Or road rage? Everything and anything that threatens our lives is EXISTENTIAL? Ingesting poison is an existential threat. I dunno tom. It seems and sounds overly fancydancy to me. I guess all threats aren't existential then? I can threaten to cut off your electricity. Not existential. If I threaten to cut off your oxygen? Existential. So cutting off our ability to seek and find justice as is occurring now vis a vis the billybarr fake AG and the extremely stable genius sb prez are existential threats because they have the power to cause our deaths?  What the extremely stable genius sb prez has done to our environment is an existential threat. Climate change ignored is an existential threat. I'm beating a dead horse I know. So thank you for an explanation that is simple and makes sense and I FINALLY GET IT. Methinks we mighta had this conversation before. Sometimes it takes awhile for me to grasp something. Thanks for hanging in! . I still think it's kinda hi-falutun' and hoity toity though! SIGH! :) This post was edited by RosieG at June 12, 2019 9:11 AM MDT
