A mild 21ºC or 69.8ºF - about normal for midday in winter here - Tweed Valley not far from the Easternmost point of Australia - subtropics. What New York is experiencing today is about normal for the whole of our January - although a two-week heatwave at 42ºC or 107.6ºF is not unusual.
Over the last 10 years, Australia has experienced a 1ºC higher than previous averages - and a doubling of extreme weather events.
My sympathies go out to all of you who are suffering from the heat - I hope you're able to keep indoors with aircon and lost of cool drinks - or maybe have access to a beach, lake or river for a nice cool swim.
Very sorry to hear about those who have died of the heat stress. :(
Perfect temp for me - 69-75. When I retire, maybe I should plan on spending NY summers in Australia. Yes, I do have aircon. I haven't been out all day. Yesterday I went out just to get some basics, but tomorrow I'll have to hit the supermarket for a real shopping. This weather would be to hot for me even at the beach.
Ya'll are getting some crazy weather there for sure. On the other side of the US Pacific coast SF abouts it's just been a bit muggy just comfortable weather here Good luck hope you have an air conditioner to cool you off... I couldn't take it.
This is the third day although the last two days haven't been quite this hot this late It's muggy, too, which makes it even more uncomfortable. I haven't been outside all day. Yes, fortunately, I have air conditioning, but I've only been using it in the room in which I am and keeping the temp to about 75 so we don't overload the electrical grid.
I read you guys were having a horrible heat wave. Hopefully you are getting some relief now. It's been hot here during the day too, but it's rainy season so every day around three it gets dark and rains a few hours. Then the nights are in the 70s. The weather does seem crazy this summer. I'm just hoping we don't see a hurricane down here. We were lucky last year.
