Is there any homo sap body part that can't be a transplant? Is skin the next frontier or is it already here?

I don't think they can transplant the pancreas,  As for skin, they can and do transplant it, particularly for burn patients.

One of my students was waiting on a pancreas transplant list, as is my next-door neighbor.

:):):) So if pancreatic cancer is diagnosed could a transplant be the cure?

I really don't know about that. If the waiting list is long, the patient will probably die from cancer first.

I have read that once pancreatic cancer is diagnosed it's usually too late to save the person who has it. i guess there are no early signs. Thank you for your reply E and Happy Monday to thee! :)

They do skin grafts. Is that the same as a transplant L? Jim had Mohs cancer surgery on his forehead, It required a skin graft. I'm not certain of the nomenclature differentiation/distinction and maybe graft/transplant mean the same thing. I wonder would they put the transplant graft skin over the existing skin or remove existing skin? Why am I asking about it?  It might end racism. Give everyone white skin transplants. Maybe a little extreme but what could it hurt? Thank you for your reply L! :)

In the case of burn victims, they have to remove the charred skin (debriding) and then place the skin graft over it.

That must be the most unbearable pain a human being can experience. "Debriding"? Thank you for the new work m'dear. I've not heard it before. Thank you for your reply L! :)

I'm sure it is.  Maybe they give you an anesthetic before they do it.  Happy Monday.  :)

Skin can now be grown and put in place for burn victims. When my wife had a major infection from a cat bite, they used a a skin-like substance made from pig bladder as a substrate for her skin to grow back.

A couple of years ago Jim and I both had Mohs surgery for skin cancer. We both required grafts. His was larger. My surgeon told me it was from cows. I'm not sure what part  and I didn't ask. Thank you for your reply E and Happy Sunday to thee! :)

Did you know they're working on a way to "print" skin on a 3D printer?  the material to"print" it  will come from the patient's own DNA, therefore there's little chance of it being rejected.  they hope one day to be able to "print" other organs as well.

Since the body is simply a machine, nearly every part of it could (in theory) be transplanted.  however, that is well beyond our current  abilities.

I did not know that Shuhak. I don't understand how  3D printers work at their most basic level. It is a most mind-boggling thing to me. Mysterious mystical magical. Thank you for your helpful and informative reply  and Happy Monday to you! :) This post was edited by RosieG at July 22, 2019 4:33 PM MDT
