I don't know how effective Biden will be, but I do believe that Biden is more sane and rational and that his motives will be for the good of the country rather than to line his own pockets.  I believe he will follow the rules set by the Ethics Committee and that he will comport himself in a presidential manner when it comes to dealing with our allies and other governments around the world.  I believe that he will bring back a modicum of civility to Congress and act in accordance with his position as the head of one branch of government rather than attempting to overstep his authority and abridge the duties and responsibilities of the other two branches.  I believe he will work to compromise to enact legislation that will move this country forward as a whole rather than divide it so that each party focuses on what is best for the U.S. and not just what is best for that party.

I cannot imagine a worse president than Trump - bar none. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at September 7, 2019 10:21 AM MDT

  • Fortunately, you won't get the opportunity to vote for that senile old coot. The only way that old fool could get elected is by some tragic catastrophe or with some tampering at the polling places, which we know is an art form with Dems. No, one of the extremists will be the standard bearer next year. With the party firmly in the control of the Socialists, they would be cannon fodder in a legitimate election process, but it remains  to be seen whether or not we get that next year. BTW, the divisiveness and polarization we're held hostage to, is the lasting legacy of Barack Obama. And please, don't attempt to defend a do nothing Congress whose sole motivation in life has been the overturning of a legitimate election and the pursuit of impeachment based only on seething hatred of the president AND the nation at large, instead of the Constitutional criteria of "High Crimes and misdemeanors". I don't know if you are aware of it or not, but going under, around, over and through the "other branches" of government is what presidents have done for two hundred years. Let's bear in mind who it was that threw down the gauntlet of rabid resistance and irrational rhetoric. It was the extreme elements in the Congress who have nothing to run on next year but their hatred of Trump and a blank slate when it comes to useful, meaningful ideas. Add to it a comatose Biden who has nothing to recommend himself for the presidency after forty eight years of public life. My prediction is that your faux "front runner" will fade and one of your also rans will be foisted on voters. This should be fun.

    High Crimes and misdemeanors ...
    Receipt of emoluments
Perverting the course of justice (that's what Nixon would have been nailed on, had he not fallen on his own sword)
Repeated flagrant violations of the 1967 Postal Reserve and Federal Salary Act (the "Bobby Kennedy law")
Common assault (of Montenegrin President Markovic)
    Lying to Congress
Interference with Presidential records (as a private citizen he can do what he likes with his Twitter account, but @POTUS  comes under the Presidential Records Act - those tweets are "electronic memos" under the law and he is NOT permitted to alter or delete them without Departmental consent, which he has never even sought, much less obtained)

    How's that for starters?

I don't know what you said yet, but whatever it is, I'm sure it is good.  I can't wait to read it.  I have had enough words with this one.  He's extraordinary, if you catch my drift.

    Receipt of emolument

    Nope.

Let's read the section of Article 1 of the Constitution: “No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”

    Now let's define

    emolument

Advantage, benefit, profit, or wage received as compensation for being employed or holding an office.

President Trump is not employed by the Trump Organization so it would not apply to him. Just as I own my business...I am not an employee of my business I don't receive an emolument from my business or from my customers. My employees receive an emolument...  Trump does not recieve a paycheck (that is what an EMOLUMENT is) from any foreign gov

Perverting the course of justice (that's what Nixon would have been nailed on, had he not fallen on his own)

Nope. Mueller did not recommend charges. Neither did Barr. We have the presumption of innocence....even for a President.

Repeated flagrant violations of the 1967 Postal Reserve Revenue and Federal Salary Act (the "Bobby Kennedy law")

Nope. The only pealty for that law is the return of any salary paid. Neither Ivanka nor Jared recieve pay.

Common assault (of Montenegrin President Markovic)

I have seen the video and that is a joke.

    Lying to Congress

?? You gotta be more specific.

Nope. I am sure Twitter has a system in place that documents each every tweet for the archives.

What else you got....that was too easy.

Trump's entire presidency has so far been comprised of overturning everything Obama put his pen to, giving the 1% and corporations a big tax break, taking money from the military budget for his Wall, playing golf, having visiting dignitaries stay at his own hotels, calling people he doesn't like vile names, endless tweeting, making a mockery of this country, causing the rest of the sane world to look at us and laugh.  As for "fixing" elections, how do you think Trump "won"?  His tariff's against China have ruined farmers, the buyers of their crops have dried up, the smaller farms are on the verge of bankruptcy, the taxpayers are paying ti keep them afloat (othewise known as welfare), consumers will be paying more for goods and the stock market is very volatile so if you're retiring soon, you have no idea what will happen.  If it wasn't for Russian interference, he'd be signing bankruptcy papers for another one of his businesses or other.

The only reason Trump hasn't been impeached already is that the Dems don't want to risk the chance that Pence will pardon him, as Ford did Nixon. They want him beaten in 2020 so they can JAIL his a$$.

I understand, but they have really let him get away with far too much.  Is there nothing else they can do to stop all the ethics violations short of impeachment?

EDIT:  The president can only pardon federal crimes.  There are probably enough state crimes to put him,and possibly his kids, away for a long time.   This post was edited by SpunkySenior at September 7, 2019 10:07 AM MDT

For those who this comment is out of sink, I post this so that you may quickly right yourself:

With his political support completely eroded, Nixon resigned from office on August 9, 1974. It is widely believed that had Nixon not resigned, his impeachment by the House and removal from office by a trial before the United States Senate would have occurred.

The pardon of Richard Nixon (Proclamation 4311 Wikisource has information on "Proclamation 4311") on September 8, 1974, by President Gerald Ford granted Nixon, Ford's predecessor as president, a full and unconditional pardon for any crimes he might have committed against the United States while president.[1][2] In particular, the pardon covered Nixon's actions during the Watergate scandal. In a televised broadcast to the nation, Ford, who had succeeded to the presidency upon Nixon's resignation, explained that he felt the pardon was in the best interests of the country and that the Nixon family's situation was "a tragedy in which we all have played a part. It could go on and on and on, or someone must write the end to it. I have concluded that only I can do that, and if I can, I must."[3]

Just when was Nixon impeached to be pardoned? He was pardoned from crimes....not from impeachment. Has nothing to do with impeachment.

Look at Ivanka Trump and her clothing line; look at Melania Trump and her jewelry line; look at Jared Kushner and his real estate holdings; look at Don Jr. and Eric and their pocket-lining now that their father is president.  Don't talk to me about anyone else vis-a-vis the thief in the White House now and his traveling circus.

Look at Dick Cheney and Halliburton and how much money the Bushes made out of their presidencies.   This post was edited by SpunkySenior at September 6, 2019 7:20 PM MDT

No, he strong armed the head of the FBI to get an investigation ended against him - then fired him when he refused to kowtow.

Obama should have fired him in summer 2016 and again Nov 2016. Trump should have fired day 1.

Dear My 2 Cents, and everyone else who has done a splendid job in trying to penetrate the problem in debating My 2 Cents.  It DOES NOT MATTER.  Okay?

My 2, it does not matter WHAT Biden did in the Ukraine.  You know why?   Because he has a sterling reputation for years.  Not like TRUMP who has not had a sterling reputation in one day of his Administration.  He lies.  ABOUT IMPORTANT FACTS THAT ENDANGER THIS NATION AND TAKES THE SIDE OF VLADIMIR PUTIN AND ALSO IS IGNORING KIM JONG UN BUILDING LITTLE MISSLES NOT BIG MISSILES.

SO?  Who gives a fig what Joe Biden signed a million years AGO????

COMPARED TO THE LAUNDRY LIST OF GRIEVANCES THE NATION HAS AGAINST TRUMP?

    IMPEACH IMPEACH IMPEACH.

Biden is not impeachable.  But everyone in the Trump administration is a crook including his illegal Attorney General.
