  • Most people aren't aware that the symbol you posted actually has a proper name and classification.  It is called an "octothorpe".  I only know that because I have this bizarre fascination with symbols like ampersands and yes the ever popular hashtag.  Let us also not forget Prince and his purple majesty's symbol.
