    I'm pretty sure I'd start feeling trapped after more than a couple of hours on a boat. 

    (I almost asked if you wouldn't, too. Then I remembered you're retired Navy. Haha).

    If it were possible I would live permanently on a boat. I had a chance to buy an ancient wooden 36 foot passenger boat one time but decided there would be too many problems make it a permanent home. This post was edited by Kittigate at February 20, 2021 9:48 AM MST

    I've seen houseboats (on television and in movies) that I would be very happy living in permanently!  

    It would certainly be an adventure, living on a boat. I'm sure people make it work, but seems it would be a real challenge with dogs.

    Yes, if one can dock at a suitable place where there is water and electrical hook-up available. I would not be able to dock at any marina without minimum of $1,000,000 insurance coverage. Boat was not suitable to insure because must have a running engine and also such an old boat would have to be hauled up and inspected. I thought of anchorage off shore somewhere but  decided that would not work well

    Cost of insurance was only about $200 annual but it was to pay for damages to other boats in case of fire.

    Yes and you could spend weekends out and about exploring along the coastline and do a bit of fishing.
