I took a college meteorology class and I understand quite a bit but even the pros don't know exactly how a tornado forms.
Another thing I don't get is why the meteorologists 'get it wrong' so often. I know the TV meteorologists are just reading a script based on the inputs they are given, but you would think they would get it right more often.
I remember the blizzard of 78 when I was stationed at the Naval Training Center north of Chicago. Two of the Chicago weathermen were not concerned about the incoming patterns and predicted a medium snowfall. However, John Coleman saw two low pressure fronts converging and told everyone that 'This is the big one' He was correct. I guarantee you will laugh your ass off at these two.

99--"you would think they would get it right more often" ... YOUR QUOTE REGARDING WEATHER STATION WEATHER FORCASTS... and you site as an example of this an event that occurred 40 years ago as proof????  Anything more CURRENT?  AND OFTEN?  Not once 40 years ago?   (sorry, I'm bored)

Huh?  I think they get it right way more often than not and when they miss, oftentimes it is off by a day or two.   Correct me if I am wrong.  I want to know, this is me guessing.

If you don't count days of fair weather, tv weathermen are wrong more often than right. Except in Mexico. Nobody cares in Mexico.

I cited an extreme example. I could give you a long list of local misses, but that would be quite boring.

Yes and no.  I've been an amateur meteorologist for 40 years.  Through schooling, research and fieldwork, I've learned the mechanics of meteorological events (airflow, climate, temperature, etc.).  Yet, simply knowing how/why something forms and functions doesn't necessarily mean one understands it.

Dust devils have terrific speed, even though the surrounding air is still. They also have a lot of electricity. If you look at movies from Mars you will see lightning bolts in the dust devils.

How anything weather-related even works.   Where does wind come from exactly.  I'm not sure.  What causes it's force?  I'm not sure.  The rain, I get.  The Sun, in your face hot thing millions of lightyears from here, hot glowing ball of gasses.  Now, that one, I'll admit, totally starts boggling me.   A star so freaking bright that it lights up our moon.

    Geez louise.

And don't get me started on the variety of snowflakes.

HEY TRUMP VOTERS LOOK AT THE FAKE NEWS.

Sol is 93 million miles from earth. It's energy is created by the process of nuclear fusion. Same as in a hydrogen bomb.
