    My guess is that there are more money spenders than money savers. I wonder if that has been a change over the years.

    Yes. Today's generation doesn't have the word 'saving' in their vocabulary. I spent when I was younger, buying mostly only what we needed. Saving consisted of Social Security, Navy retirement and teacher retirement.
