If coaches and players were honest, what would they say in the interview after losing the game?

“It was a close game.  We were up by one point with only four seconds left in the game.  Things were looking really bad for us but we miraculously found a way to still lose the game after the other team missed that field goal.  We found a way to get it done and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.”

"Honestly, it's just sports. Like, if you're paid 250,000 a week whether you get concussed or not, would you jump in front of a truck? So I didn't catch the ball, big ***ing deal. If we had won, then the other team's fans would be upset and it would be the same thing. And I know all of you people complaining about it messed up something more important at your jobs this week -- assuming you have jobs, aside from drinking beer in the parking lot and typing nonsense on social media, like 'your' franchise is gonna care about what you write. Yeah, sure, they employ twenty people to look for your sports-related opinions online."

Your narrative sounds like the Cleveland Browns a few years ago(And at this year's Browns/Seattle game). They always find a way to lose. This post was edited by Element 99 at November 17, 2023 4:25 PM MST

This was inspired by Monday Night Football.  The Bills fired their offensive coordinator the next day.

You must not follow the NFL. The Browns are a strong 6-3 this year.

I did refer to past teams in my comment. Browns season might be down the toilet. Watson out for the season.

Maybe, but they have a great defense and were winning without Watson.

"Well, we must admire the other side with playing better than us today."

    Which is more sportsmanly than,

"Well, we have to admit we played badly today."

I don't follow competition sports but I think I actually have read real comments a bit like that first version, in the local paper.

Though honest or not, some of them, especially footballers, would still spout the kind of rhubarb that gets quoted - with their names - in the 'Colemanballs' column of Private Eye magazine...
