Are you addicted to TV?

I have an awfully addictive personality and I could literally watch from morning til bedtime solidly - so I don't! I don't watch TV! People find that hard to believe.. I had a colleague once who insisted on trying to talk to me about what he'd watched on tv.  The conversation would go something like, "Did you watch blah blah on TV last night?"  - No Keith I never watch TV.. "Oh well what about blah diddly blah blah?" - No Keith, I really don't watch any tv.. I am sure he thought I was odd! And maybe I am!

But I had a reminder today of why I don't watch tv..  The TV was on..... Hotel Inspector came on... some programme about a woman who gets called in to Hotels that are struggling, to help turn the business around... I mean, I need to know this WHY? It helps me in my daily life HOW? It doesn't, not one jot... but I got drawn in... and ended up watching 3 episodes and wasting 3/4 of the day!

Grr remind me that I should NOT put the TV on!

Not a lot.  There are certainly a lot of shows I like, but I don't think I'm addicted to watching them.

  • That's brilliant.. if you have the self discipline not to sit and watch non stop ... lol I clearly don't, which is why I can't really do TV.

I have just discovered a Netflix Original "Broken Mirror."  It is like a modern version of the
Twilight Zone.  The term "redo" will never be the same for me.  ((((CHILLS))))  (the very last episode)

( or perhaps it's "Black Mirror")

  • I go in spurts.   I'll bing watch the shows and movies I enjoy and then when I'm through the series I might put the news or something else on for background noise next to the work bench once in awhile but that's about it.

In fact my TV hasn't been turned on in a month.  Not that a computer screen is really all that much different.

  • You have a point.. with my addictive tendencies I can, and have been addicted to the net before. Some would say I still am.. but i find that easier to tear myself away from.

  • I hear ya'.   It's not as passive so easier to get bored of to the point of walking away for awhile.  After two months being connected again I'm getting bored with it again.

  • I'm not addicted, but I do have  a small list of shows that I really enjoy. Give me the outdoors in the summer, and I can forget about tv.

My mother likes having a TV on whenever she's at home, even if she's not watching it, just for background noise. She even sleeps with one on.

  • Im addicted to the noise, the back ground noise. It keeps my mind busy while I do things. Sometimes I do get sucked in unexpectedly by something or other, however, and before I know I've been watching Ru Paul or Steven Segal for an hour or two.

  • See! Taht's what happens to me!  I tend to listen to the radio more... even that can entrap you but it's easier to escape I think.

  • Yes, it's alright tho, I watch it if I want to, I don't feel guilty, there's a lot other worse stuff I could be doing.

  • No. Except for news, current affairs and the occasional documentary, I mostly find it too boring.
Sometimes I watch when my brain is too tired to read or write.
Then it acts like a lullaby by boring me to sleep in about 5 minutes.
But I can only do it if Ari's in his den, because otherwise it would keep him awake.

  • Tee hee love it.. there is apparently truth in what you say though.. TV is said to be more relaxing than the net because it's passive and non-interactive in the way the net is.

I don't have cable. Hate the news. Just listen to rappers on radio. I watch Netflix once in a while, focusing only on nature programs. Watched "Hidden Houses in Wales" the other day. Not that interesting. Guess books are the best things ever. I like math too. Doing research on "The Golden Ratio". I'm looking for paintings that have the Golden Ratio. I know the "Mona Lisa" is painted using it.

I just get carried away with research. ❤️ it so much!

  • Aww i love research too :)  Mine is way more random than yours though... and I am seriously rubbish at math :P  I like nature programmes, David Attenborough is a hero in this house; but mostly I find them depressing because of wildlife declines and habitat loss :(

I doooooo love Wales though.... can't imagine what hidden houses unless they mean big mansions? I like the many abandoned stone houses.. well i do and don't like.. it's a sign of loss but I'd love to have one, restore it and live there - I've always dreamed of living in Wales :)
