The FINAL AUTHORITY resides in Congress, not the prez. Does that comfort/distress you? Why?

While t'is true the prez can VETO a bill t'is truer still that Congress can override the veto with a 2/3 vote in both House and Senate. Few vetoes have been overridden. How angry would a prez get and what revenge would he seek to get back at the ones who went against his wishes? Any prez ever try to VETO an override?

The final say is with the Supreme Court. But ultimately with the voters. If Congress overrides a veto then the voters could replace the members of Congress and get it passed that way. Same with the President. If the Prez veto's a bill then the voters can get a new Prez to pass it later.

    Great check and balance system.

  • RosieG,  there are three branches of government for a good reason, checks and balances. We have the Legislative Branch who make the laws, (Congress, Senate, House of Representatives). The Executive Branch that carries out those laws (President, Vice President, Cabinet). And the Judicial Branch (Supreme Court and other Federal Courts) which evaluate those same laws. The checks and balances Constitutional Republic form of government is a thing of beauty when it operates the way it was intended. However, there are always some dead beat anti-government, be it Democrat or Republican thugs, that feel the need to try a power play and  subvert, rewrite, undermine, and destroy the Constitution by any means their sick and twisted minds can concoct.

The bottom line is this, it is We the People that have the final authority. We are the government. The elected officials work for us, we don't work for them. Thankfully more and more of We the People, have taken (presidential election) are taking now, the necessary political steps to take back our country. To wrest it from the grasp of the fascist, socialistic, and communistic traitors that permeate this government. The same traitors that are trying to get Trump impeached. The same traitors that are calling for a coup. The same traitors that are calling for Trumps assassination. The same traitors that are marching through the streets of this country bring physical violence with them. All meant to destroy the Constitution, the Constitutional Republic form of government. Just my opinion of course. It comforts me to know that we still have a Constitutional form of government. What distresses me is that there are those who want to take that away.

It would help if Donald John respected the Constitution and followed it Hezekiah. As it is he refers to it when it is convenient and ignores it when it gets in his way. Thank you for your reply! :)

    Nixon kind of did.

He refused to disburse funds that congress allocated for a project.  The Supreme Court dictated that his decision was unconstitutional.

Congress has one thing over the president.  IMPEACHMENT power.  So Trump made sure to have puppets in congress and enough of them, so that cannot ever happen.

So, crafty and brilliant that guy.

No once the override is successful the law is passed. The President cannot veto it again.

Thank you for your informative reply m2c. Donald John doesn't follow rules. He might try to override and override. What could it hurt? He is already getting away with murder figuratively. SIGH.
