Monkees - Last Train To Clarksville (1966)

This debut single by the first commercially successful manufactured group went all the way to number one in the USA. In the UK, however, it did not enter the charts until after their next single ("I'm A Believer") had already scored. For a year or two they did almost as well in the UK as they did in the USA.

  • My mother used to work with Michael Naismith's mother when she was a secretary, which was when she got rich by inventing White Out. The Monkees (minus Davey Jones) are playing at the Paramount Theater in Austin in the Fall. We have tickets.
