Typically Tropical - Barbados (1975)

This one-hit wonder was the summer holiday smash of 1975, reaching number one in the UK in August that year. The band never made the Top 50 again, but a remake of this song with different lyrics and retitled "Ibiza" topped the charts by the Vengaboys in 1999. This is the 1975 original.

  • I've never heard it. No chart info in the US.

I don't know if it came out in the US, I've never seen a US issue of it. Apparently it did come out in Germany and one or two other European countries. I can't see it being a hit in the US in 1975, it was hardly the style that was popular there at that time. Maybe it wasn't released there because the record company (Decca) didn't think it would be a hit there. Apparently the band themselves were surprised when it got to number one in the UK. Lol:)

  • Speaking of Caribbean style music, how much of a hit was this in the UK? It got to #2 in the US.

That one also got to #2 in the UK. His previous single "I Don't Wanna Dance" got to number one here.

  • In the US, that was the followup to Electric Avenue and only made it to #53.

I couldn't remember its exact performance in the US, but I knew it didn't do well there.
