Simon and Garfunkel - Homeward Bound (1966)

50 years ago, Simon and Garfunkel were sitting in a RAILWAY STATION (not sitting in a train station), and everybody knows that because this song has been played on the radio countless times since then.

  • S&G were actually playing small clubs in London, and had actually done some busking for spending money when Columbia Records called them to get home ASAP when Sound of Silence started rocketing up the charts.

Is that what inspired them to write "Homeward Bound"? Or had they already written it? Your answer may also explain their usage of the phrase "railway station", which I deliberately emphasised as a reference to one of my other questions. Lol:)

  • I believe that I read somewhere that Paul Simon did write Hoeward Bound, at least partially on the flight from London to New York. I also heard that he hadn't heard the single version of Sounds of Silence until he got to New York and that he was pissed at the producer for including strings. Simon had only wanted vocals and acoustic guitar. IMO, he was wrong.

I have both versions of "The Sound Of Silence". I like both versions and I would include them on different home-made compilations.

  • If you come across a video of this other sound of silence version you should post it here. I would love to hear it.

Was that the one in Central Park? I have that on DVD. It's included in my Simon and Garfunkel boxed set alongside five albums on CD. I bought that in a sale about 7 years ago, the shop had an overstock of them and they were selling it cheap. :)
