Big OSCARS controvery. No women directors were nominated for BEST DIRECTOR. Directors vote for directors. Isn't gender bias normal?

I don't know the number but I expect there are MORE MALE directors than there are female directors who having voting privileges.

So crossing gender lines is unlikely though it has been done before. I don't have a dog in this fight. I haven't seen any of the movies nominated.

Did you see any movies directed by women that you thought were spectacular? If so which of them do you wish had been nominated for an Academy Award?

I would hope they are voting on the work and not the gender in eirher direction.

That's the point of my question m2c. Though I have not seen any of them there are pictures that have been directed by women that I read are astoundingly awesome. I can't provide names off the tip of my head but I just wondered...5 slots and all of them are men. I just thought something that might pertain to this and I'm going to ask it. Maybe you can answer that. Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday to thee! :)

Many, many movies and most are directed by men. So just by odds....men would get the slots.

In years past women directors were nominated m2c. What went wrong this year? Why were women SHUT OUT? Do you go to the movies? Did you see any that you would recommend seeing? Thank you for your reply.

I seen one movie this year. We do not go out to the theatre much.
We seen Gemeni Man with Will Smith.

I normally do not like the movies that get all the awards. They tend to be dramas which bore me to death. I prefer action and comedy. So I will not be much help there.
Also most movies the language is aweful so we wait to see on TV. But that is getting bad as well. We had a foul language filter for our tv but it quit. Plan to replace this summer.

Well sweetie why do you think Jim and I escape all the time to TCM...Turner Class Movies? Because they used to be better. I totally agree with you about subject matter and language and vulgar and garish and gruesome. I like movies like Yankee Doodle Dandy or Wizard of Oz or Singing in the Rain. Why don't they make movies like that these days? We're on the same page here m'dear! Thank you for your reply. Will they ever go back to making good movies the whole family can enjoy or is that gone forever? I know. You don't know and I don't either. More's the pity! :( This post was edited by RosieG at February 9, 2020 6:06 AM MST

True. They do hoped-for "BLOCKBUSTER" movies in Hollywood. Why? Because they make a lotta big bucks off the desire of the many to see depravity apparently. Why else would they make them? SIGH. Thank you for your reply m2c! :)
