  • Academy Award winning "Coal Miner's Daughter"

based on the life story of Country singer Loretta Lynn starring Sissy Spacek.

Its just a damn good movie.  And I'm a big music lover so it appeals to me.

Happy Sunday, Rosie.  May your day be as pleasant as a sweet birdsong.

I saw the movie and enjoyed it a great deal. For me it is Yankee Doodle Dandy..the life of George M. Cohan with James Cagney. But in general I very much like biographical movies about real people. They are often very moving and I always check them out on the internet the next day to see how close they are to what was real. Thank you for your reply Twink and Happy Sunday to you m'dear! :) ((hugs))

Wyatt Earp. I know it was a Hollywood dud, but I liked it.

"The Straight Story". It's a dramatisation of the real 240-mile journey from Iowa to Wisconsin made by the 73-year old Alvin Straight on a riding lawn mower to visit his sick brother, whom he'd not spoken to for many years. I like it because of the beautiful photography, the way it captures the wide open spaces of the Mid-West, the quirky characters, and how it conveys the dignity of rural life and self-reliance. Richard Farnsworth, in the titular role, was the oldest man ever to be nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards.
