How many defendants plead INSANITY as a defense among all court cases?

I Googled that and this is what I found.

The INSANITY DEFENSE is used in less than 1% of all court cases with a 26% success rate. Of that 26%, 90% of the defendants had been previously diagnosed with mental illness.

So it seems that the insanity defense is rarely used and not a huge problem. Surprised?

Not really. A person can be mental but still know right from wrong. Which it what I believe has to be proven to succeed with insanity defense.  And then you are not freed you are sent to mental health facility.
