What do they have in common? Dumb don still has not released his tax returns. Bloomberg hasn't as yet. Bernie stonewalls what?

Sez he will not release any further health records.

Three of a kind. Transparency is the enemy here. Stonewall. Obfuscate. They will all get away with it. Watcha gonna do about it? Go pound mud. Suck it up. GET OVER IT. Sheesh. Do I gotta draw you a picture?

Releasing of tax records, health records, and the like is a convention, not a legal requirement.

President Trump has established that NOT releasing such records (or pretty blatantly falsifying them) does NOT impose a significant political penalty.

Hence, it makes little or no sense for any of his rivals to release their records while Trump keeps his private. Why should any other candidate give the Trump campaign potential ammunition to use against them (cf. Senator and VP candidate Edmund Muskie) while Trump's secrets remain safely hidden?

If the American people don't like this situation, they are going to have to extract a political penalty (beyond harrumphing by the media/pundit class)  upon candidates who refuse to abide by the convention.

The other candidates allegedly have done it. Therefore to whit it makes bloomie look exactly like dumb don. He's got something to hide. Legal requirement or not is irrelevant as well in my opinion. If your opponents are going the extra mile and you don't you DESERVE to lose. Thank you for your reply. I am open. I would do it in a heartbeat. If I'm the only one who does it then it makes the others look shabby shady sheepish by comparison. Nothing to lose by being transparent. My opinion of course. :)

Perhaps if we lived in an era where rationality, fairness and reciprocity, and a sense of proportion reigned, more politicians would share your attitude. But we don't.

I remember back when Barack Obama was running for President, an RWAF (Right Wing Authoritarian f.*****) on the Internet harrumphing at what a "tax cheat" Obama was because one time he underpaid his taxes by a few thousand dollars, a mistake Obama subsequently corrected. I pointed out to said RWAF that I, personally, had made a similar mistake on one of my tax returns because my tax accountant misunderstood some rules on 401k withdrawals. Seeing that Pebble Ordinary Cockatoo could be in exactly the same situation as then-candidate Obama did not dissuade this RWAF from his harrumphing.

I suspect politicians who are not being forthcoming with their records are afraid of what our Mass Media Culture will do with that information if the right person hits upon the right attack vector and makes their attack "go viral" regardless of the actual merits of the complaint.

Rationality, Fairness, Reciprocity, Proportionality. What a nifty concept SP! We have words to cover those things. All we need do is find homo saps who value them and subscribe to them. I know. It's complicated. Thank you for your thoughtful analysis. I'm gonna ask a question about what it will take to hold his/her own for the dumb don opponent. SIGH. :(

I don't know why she has this hatred of Bernie and Elizabeth as President all of a sudden when she was the one that introduced them to me on Answer Bag.  She knows how great they are.
