Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Israel is holding its THIRD ELECTION IN A YEAR! What's going on over there? Netanyahu is the center I expect. His corruption is the cause?
Do you have a clue what is going on over there L? Why so many elections in one year? Net is weird to begin with and corrupt. Any buddy of dumb don is. Will net buy his way out of the mess he is in? No skin off my nose either way but I never liked him. Israel needs an HONEST leader. Net is not. I hope they get someone whom they can RESPECT ADMIRE AND BELIEVE. Thank you for your reply m'dear! :)
Higher Ground below has the short version, but if you want a more expended answer, per Wikipedia:
Elections in Israel are based on nationwide proportional representation. The electoral threshold is currently set at 3.25%, with the number of seats a party receives in the Knesset being proportional to the number of votes it receives.[1][2] The Knesset is elected for a four-year term, although most governments have not served a full term and early elections are a frequent occurrence. Israel has a multi-party system based on coalition governments as no party has ever won a majority of seats in a national election, although the Alignment briefly held a majority following its formation by an alliance of several different parties prior to the 1969 elections. The legal voting age for Israeli citizens is 18. Elections are overseen by the Central Elections Committee, and are held according to the Knesset Elections Law.
Thank you for your detailed thorough and information-filled reply to my question and also for mentioned the reply HG gave. I read both and now I understand. So as I said to HG theoretically there could be unlimited elections. Not my cuppa tea. :)
Geez L worst case it could take forever! So what happens while all that is happening? What kind of governing can be going on when the gubment is embroiled in such activities? It can't be easy and who loses again and again? Why the people of course! Thank you for your reply! :)
Well, so far, it seems that they've been able to conduct whatever business needs to be done. The good part is that if you elect people you don't like, you get to rectify it.
Very true but if and only if you get a majority. What if you NEVER do? i wonder how many elections such gubments have had and which country holds the record for having to run the most elections to get a clear winner? What does it COST? Mind-boggling. Thank you for your reply m'dear! :)
Would that work here L? I fail to see how things could be more screwed up royally politically than they are here but maybe I just don't have the vision to imagine worse! Thank you for your reply! :)
The reason for repeated elections is the fact that the Likud and the Blue and White Parties are evenly split with neither able to form a coalition and therefore a government with the numerous minor parties. That's the problem with a Parliamentary/Prime Minister form of government.
Thank you for a very SIMPLE UNDERSTANDABLE reply to my question HG. So theoretically the number of elections could be unlimited? Not very efficient. Happy Tuesday to thee! :)
