Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Ever play a game you knew you couldn't win? Did you sandbag to insure you wouldn't? Isn't winning the only point of playing?
I used to have one of those computerized chess boards. I could beat the computer on the first level ... the second level, I could win about 1/3 of the time ... Levels 3-10 was just higher levels of frustration, as I never won. lol
Why play at level 2, if I knew I would lose 2/3 of the time? To improve my game. I guess the point was to increase my odds of winning, in the long term.
No, I never joined a chess club or played in a tournament.
I think sometimes the point is not winning but participating Walt. Don't you? Thank you for your reply. Was that a very pricy? I've never heard of a computerized chess board. Is it its only opponent ever just the person who plays on it? Meant to take the place of a human opponent? It has be rigged/programmed to work doesn't it? Like machines in Vegas are rigged to the House to win? People gamble in spite of it and sometimes rarely they win! Anyway win or lose they can be lots of fun. Which brings me to a question about winning and losing. :)
I don't remember how much it was "back in the day" ... but you can get it for about $10 on eBay, now. lol
You could use it as a regular chess board, with 2 players. Or a single player against the computer. I think it also had a mode where if there were 2 players, you could have it recommend moves. Or (basically) have it play against itself.
Thanks Walt. Full discloseure. I don't buy anything on the internet. Zip.Zero. Nada. Zilch. I'm a hands-on in-person buyer. But thanks for the info m'dear! :)
