Massive tax cuts in a "stimulus package" being discussed. DJI shoots up. How does that help retirees or those without jobs?

This is just the beginning..the tip of the iceberg. What you do now may not enough or may be the wrong thing to do.

Dumb don says he will be meeting with Mitch McConnell and other Republicans.

No Democrats invited to the discussion table then dumb don? Geez thanks a lot for including us OUT.

Well, since it takes Congress to approve tax cuts, eventually the Dems will have to be included.  In one article, it said a general tax cut and in another article I read, it said he proposes tax cuts for hourly workers.  Not sure if one or both are what he has in mind.  I'm also not sure how effective that will be since anyone who doesn't have paid sick leave or vacation time and who has to take off work will not be spending money on merchandise (an economy stimulator), but will be using it for paying bills, etc. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at March 10, 2020 7:36 AM MDT

No matter what path is taken it isn't going to help everyone who needs it. Thank you for your thoughtful and informed reply L. I appreciate it! :)

That's the truth.  I don't see a tax cut making up the difference in pay for low income folks.

I expect everything everywhere every time is like that. Some benefit and some don't. Oh well no one promised us a rose garden! Are you going into work today on a bus or whatever conveyance you take L? You do that three times a week, right? Think it's safe? Could you possibly work from home or is your business not constructed that way? Just kinda worried about you. Thank you for your reply! :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 10, 2020 7:41 AM MDT

I have been bothered by sciatica for the past two weeks.  It was really bad this morning and I was just not able to get myself together so I'm not working today.  I'm going to have to make a doc appointment if it isn't better in a day or two.  So, you don't have to worry about me today. :)  Thanks for your concern.

You're welcome. I cancelled a routine gynecological exam for Thursday. I called the doctor's office and spoke to the nurse. Told her I had no worrisome symptoms and could I reschedule later? She said yes. I go every year as part of the cancer survivor aftercare. I have to go until I'm 90! So now I worry that when you go to see the doc will there be others there  in the waiting room who have something they share with you that you don't want? I KNOW you are not in the high-risk group L but still you aren't a kitten either. Sorry about the sciatica. A long time ago I had problems and it is a constant awful that you can't seem to mitigate. Do you know what triggers it? Moisture in the air or extreme cold? So thanks for a worry-free day! I'm kinda joking but also kinda not! ((hugs))

Probably a smart move if it's just a routine exam.  My sciatica is probably from the herniated disk in my lower back.  I've had it before, but not like this.  When I got up this morning (and the last three mornings), I couldn't even stand because of the pain in my right leg.  I took a couple of Advil and in about an hour the pain subsided a lot.  I was able to go out and get my taxes done, stopped at the supermarket for a couple of items, and then headed home.  Of course, on those days I didn't have to go to work, so it was OK that it took two hours for me to get mobile, but this morning was more of the same and I knew I wouldn't make my usual bus, so I called in sick.  Two Advil this morning and by 10 AM, I was moving.  What I may do is just go in late.  I doubt I could get a doc appointment before Friday and the ER is not a place I want to go under the best circumstances, so I'm not going now.  We'll see.  For now, I'll just stay home and rest. ((hugs)).

I'm really glad you had some relief of that pain. How are you feeling today? Way better I hope. As of today there are 1,021 documented cases of COVID 19 and 30 deaths. Dumb don is still tweeting hate attacks and insults. Nothing will ever make him change. He is empty of everything needed to make one human. Thank you for your reply L! :)

Feeling much better this morning - at least I can stand up and the Advil is kicking in, so I'm mobile and will be able to go to work.

I don't think Trump will ever see himself as he is, so there's no chance he will ever change.  I'm sure he thinks he's the cat's meow.

    Happy Wednesday. :)

My job is very easy - no stress other than the day feeling very long because I didn't have much to do.  Now, I'm working for another attorney and he's busy.  Not so much with legal work, but with personal stuff.  He's a voracious reader and every day he has me printing all kinds of articles he finds.  It's just a matter of getting used to working with someone new.  I'm sure after a month or so, I'll get back to being my usual organized self.  Haven't had to be too organized before this. :)

I've had jobs like that L so it does make a day longer. I'm glad the stress is minimal. That's the last thing we need these days. How is your sciatica today?

Had a fitful night, couldn't find a position that was comfortable.  It's eased up now - sitting and standing seem to be better than lying down.

My office is closing until the end of March.  It seems that someone who works there was exposed to someone outside work and has exhibited some symptoms, but has not been confirmed as having the virus.  Out of an abundance of caution, the firm has decided to close for two weeks.  Yippee!

Putting more money in people's pockets isn't going to do much ... well, not for "brick and mortar" economy.
People may spend it via online shopping.  But if they're scared of the virus, they aren't going shopping just because they have more money.
So it won't help things like ... sports stadiums that see a sharp decline in spectators, because people don't want to be around that many possible carriers.

Events are being cancelled every day. I wonder what the final financial tally will be? Billions? Thank you for your reply Walt and Happy Wednesday. :)
