I think we all know that the man is damned if he acts and damned if he doesn't. I personally don't think that a declaration of a "national emergency" is appropriate or necessary. Whether people want this treated as a political conflict (which it is to a great extent), or a public health problem, is really determined by whether you're within the beltway or out here in the real world. We'd all get along better by completely ignoring Congress and their games, as well as the media that works around the clock to incite a panic.
I think that if a national emergency is declared, Congress can appropriate funds that would otherwise be saved for a rainy day can be used to mitigate the effects of the emergency.
Not only has the declaration freed up funds to help people, it seems to have steadied the stock market, too. This is definitely something Trump should have done weeks ago, but he's too stupid to take anyone's advice, assuming anyone in his lackluster administration advised him to do it. Happy Saturday. :)
