We received our 2020 Census form on Friday. The answers should be as of APRIL 1. APRIL FOOL'S DAY! Isn't that speshul?

It allows for ten people to be living under one roof.

The US census is always taken on April Fool's Day (April 1st).  They do that purposefully, in order to remind citizens who really runs their government.  (Besides, the IRS had already called dibs on the 15th)

Seriously Shuhak? Funny I never noticed that till now when we have a FOOL as president. Very fitting though I think. The questions are insulting. Why do they care what ethnic group folks are? The point is to get an accurate count of BODIES. Right? That is how they base the number of representatives we get in Congress. I fail to see the relevance of anything beyond that. Thank you for your reply! :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 15, 2020 11:54 AM MDT

Yes, its main purpose is to draw the lines of legislative districts and reapportion the seats each State holds in Congress.  Yes, it has been used during times of war to see where populaces of certain ethnic groups are located (citizens, enemy aliens and foreign nationalists).  However...

"The Bureau cannot share responses, addresses or personal information with anyone including United States or foreign government and law enforcement agencies such as the IRS or the FBI or Interpol. "Providing quality data, for public good—while respecting individual privacy and, at the same time, protecting confidentiality—is the Census Bureau's core responsibility"; "Keeping the public's trust is critical to the Census's ability to carry out the mission as the leading source of quality data about the Nation's people and economy." Only after 72 years does the information collected become available to other agencies or the general public. Seventy-two years was picked because usually by 72 years since the census is taken, most participants would be deceased." - Wikipedia

As for why the information is needed -

"The census tells us who we are and where we are going as a nation, and helps our communities determine where to build everything from schools to supermarkets, and from homes to hospitals. It helps the government decide how to distribute funds and assistance to states and localities." - US Census Bureau

Can it be used maliciously?  Anything's possible.  Can trump use it for his own diabolical plans?  No.

And there have always been fools in government ... not just in the presidency.
