Are funerals against the law now?

    No.

    You can have a funeral without a large gathering of people.
    I've been to a couple, where the person was laid out for viewing from morning to dusk ... and people stopped by when they had time.

    Of course, since we've had video marriages ... we could have video funeral services.

    You won't get it from me!  I think the land should be for the living, not the dead.  Cremate, place in a bio-urn, plant a tree in it and off you go to do some good for the environment.

    Easily.  When my parents passed away, as the Jewish religion dictates, they were buried in plain pine caskets.  Even without all the hoopla (small family, they both died at 93, so no friends left), it came to a fair amount.
