  • I wouldn't say it is a thing of the past Rosie.  It's still possible to find examples that qualify as 'good' (as opposed to 'I agree with these views = this must be good journalism.').

    But it's also very easy to see really poor examples.  From a certain perspective, 'old' journalism - checking sources, proper investigation, pertinent questions - has died back but it still survives.  

    What can be said is that it is no longer concentrated under specific publication names - these days you have to look for it .  Interesting and useful stuff is still written, but the press game many in the public eye play has become easier for them.  They pick [insert 'traditional' publication name here], rely on respect and deference for that name and then spend 20 minutes producing no answers and saying nothing.  

    Slowly, people from older generations are learning that much of the established media is part of the problem rather than a solution.  Happily, it seems many from later generations already know this, or at least more of them do.
