Yep. I just had to know. Even when I exhausted their knowledge base, I never stopped asking. I learned quickly that there were wise people out there as well as fools. The wise people taught me more, while all the fools could each is how to be a fool. Although I have gained a lot of knowledge over the years, I still don’t know everything. However, a wise person told me a long time ago that I don’t need to know everything (I don’t remember who it was). It took many years before I finally understood what that actually meant. Oh, I still ask ‘why’. In fact, I’m not satisfied until I know. However, I know that no matter how many times one asks “why”, some things are simply not knowable (such as why are people so stupid), for we are all still learning.
My uncle bought us a set of encyclopedia Britannica’s just after I was born (complete with a bookcase). We used those things for numerous book reports over the years (and for pressing leaves). My mom had a set of Books of Knowledge from when she was young that we also used. They had a lot of scientific stuff in them (my favorite). We gave away the Britannica’s in the mid 1990’s as they were out of date. As we were on the way to the thrift store to donate them, we stopped off at the store. As we were loading the trunk (around the Britannica’s), a stranger asked if we were getting rid of them. I said yes, so she took them. The Books of Knowledge, however, are still sitting on the same lower bookshelf in the living room… the exact same place they’ve been for the past 55 years.
