  • It will work until it meets actual thinking.  When that happens the illusion doesn't work any longer, or begins to struggle to maintain authority.

Of course, one can circumvent this realisation by throwing more nonsense in the general direction of the original offence.  This is a common ploy among many politicians, whether they're talking nonsense or not.

On a side note, I'm always amazed at how much politicians and their previous actions are ignored when something smelly hits the fan.  This is of course the job of the press, and nothing demonstrates how few genuinely 'independent' media organisations exist than how the press covers for those actually responsible for whatever calamity has occurred.

Almost every evil we face is, at some stage, allowed or encouraged by politicians.  No point blaming bankers when they're just obeying the law.  I keep hearing people in this country saying, 'Why have no bankers/rich people been prosecuted over 2008?'.  The simple answer is that they did nothing wrong, did not break the law and cannot be prosecuted.  But getting that tiny fact into the thought processes of the masses has proven tremendously difficult.

So, there you have it.  The Trump campaign could have been decimated months ago over his complete lack of policies and difficulty stringing a coherent sentence together.  That this has not happened is nothing to do with 'support' and everything to do with worthwhile journalism, or the lack of it.

The population are still trusting, ignorant sheep (though happily these numbers are slowly declining).  The thinking in the corridors of power is that they only need herding ('Where's Murdoch's 'phone number?') until it's time for them to be sheared.
