I watch Antiques Roadshow and also Pawn Stars. From time to time folks bring in BEAUTIFUL antique guns. Do they make beautiful guns still?

The antiques usually have lots of carvings on them and are meant to display.

Today guns are just utilitarian. Buy 'em to shoot living things or maybe never living. Are there any artistic craftsman creatin beautiful guns? Is there a market for them or are today's gun people only interested in the utilitarian aspect?

I believe there are a few gunsmiths who might not make the weapons now but will engrave the artwork on them. I imagine it would be very expensive though.

As you know I am not a gun person Durdle but I have seen some that are EXQUISITE. I expect there are collectors of such guns just because of the artistry that is required. Thank you for your reply! Are you a gun person or a nongun?

    Non-gun!

I find it rather ironical that a device whose sole purpose is killing something or someone should be so beautifully decorated, though I know a lot of sporting guns are owned by people who only want to shoot inanimate targets.

You are probably right about the collectors, but some are interested in military equipment generally, not the artistic side so much. I do know someone who has a few antique firearms including one or two flint-lock guns. He can't and won't try firing them fully loaded, but he does sometimes demonstrate the action with a small amount of gun-powder, just enough to make an impressive spurt of flame.

There are some guns that are so very rare they're worth huge bucks! I think collectors adore rare Durdle and if they own them they probably insure them for even bigger bucks! Thank you for your thoughtful and informaive reply m'dear! Happy Friday! :)
