"What are your favorite Bible verses. Your favorite passages from the Bible"?
"That is too person for me to answer I keep that private" or words to that effect per the Don when asked.
So all you "the Bible is incredible" folks out there is it too personal a question for you to answer? Why is that exactly?
For me it will always be what I learned as a very young child. "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want...."
It was very comforting to me as a child and it still is.
What scared me as a kid? A simple verse.
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the lord my soul to take
What kid finds comfort in that? I sure didn't.

The more one studies the bible, the more they’ll see that the Old Testament and the New Testament go hand in hand. The theme to the entire bible is Jesus Christ. Old Testament – Someone is coming. The Gospels- that Someone is here (Jesus Christ). Acts through Revelation – get ready, for that Someone is coming again.
The bible too personal to share? One should be eager to share their favorite passages! The only reason to “keep it personal” is because one never read the bible and they are too embarrassed to say so.
I have too many favorites to list them all.
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39
I agree, the 23rd Psalm is extremely comforting. Even more so when coupled with John 3:16.
The poem you mentioned is not scripture. Yes, I can see that to a kid it might seem scary. A better rendition is -
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep;
His Love to guard me through the night,
And wake me in the morning's light.
