Have you ever purchased a consumer product because of a media mention or reference?

.
I'm not speaking about advertisements for products. I mean when a product gets mentioned in the context of an article/book/song/movie etc.

For example,  I've tried both a Coffee Bean Iced Blended and a caramel macchiato because of this song reference:

Similarly, I've tried Bob Evans' Biscuits and Gravy because of this reference:

Recently, I tried a 5-bladed disposable razor because of this Onion article

How about you? Any stories to tell?

All the time.   That is how I find everything.   (mostly now, I just read Mr. Bromide)

I found one of the best jobs I ever had by watching a TV commercial for owning your own home-based business.  I found out the company was based in Phoenix and got a job selling this business to other people whom the commercial was targeting.    So, I, in essence, became part of the commercial, not part of the consumer base.

    Endorsements
    Tom Bosley in 1979
During the 1970s and 1980s, Bosley did several commercials .... Later in life he was the television spokesman for SMC (Specialty Merchandise Corporation), a national wholesaler and dropshipper.   So, Tom Bosley, inadvertently got me a great career for a time.

That is kind of stretching it, I know, but since I used this ad for something it was not intended for (they wanted to sell me crap and I wanted a job that had nothing to do with the commercial, (I could sell the company's  the crap to other people for money) I think it kind of fits.

But to give you an answer that you must accept because it fits your request:  (not really)

I now have an orange spray-tan, gained 50 pounds and bought an orange toupee because of  Trump Steaks.

    Thank you,

This is exactly the sort of answer I hope other people will provide (so far, none have done so).

Not that I recall, but I can imagine the possibility.

It seems likely that all sorts of product placements influence us subconciously, but I was hoping for more explicit examples.
