You are in constant pain due to a compressed disc in your spine. Surgery is an option but it is a 50-50 risk. Of what?

Of being successful or making things much worse including paralysis.

What do you do? Take the risk or live with it?

    The risks are that it may not relieve the problem, may make it worse or paralyze the person.  There are new technologies today that may make such surgery less risky.

    How old were you when you had the surgery E? Were you apprised of the risks and were they 50-50 at that time? I'm very happy it worked out so well for you. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday to thee and thine. I heard that some idiot is thinking of running for Governor to oust DeWine. The person who reported that said DeWine would blow him out of the water! I had to laugh. I forget who the allegedly future challenger was but I guess the folks in Ohio like their Governor despite the crap he takes from Republicans for just trying to keep his citizens safe.

    It all depends on how bad they want relief.  50-50 are the same odds one has in flipping a coin (heads/tails).  As with any gamble, one has to weigh the outcomes carefully.  

    At this point I, personally, would say no (assuming I were in that situation).  I have known many people who've had that surgery, and over 50% came out worse than before.  Maybe they were "unlucky".  Maybe their situation was different than mine (again, if I had the problem).  Who knows.  But that makes me feel that the odds aren't exactly 50-50.

    Well it was Jim and at the time he was in his 60's. Now he is 85 and that is not an operation he'd want to chance so he just lives with it. Thank you for your reply Shuhak. :)
