If tech companies have too much power and are "silencing free speech", what is the solution? Government regulation of social media?

It seems to me either the government or corporations are going to be in charge of social media platforms and what can and cannot be on them. Either private companies can ban whom they want or the government restricts their ability to do so.

Do you think social media should be a free-for-all where the only thing that's prohibited is illegal activity?

Every private platform has a TOS and, as private companies, they have a right to decide what the rules are.  Violators can be removed.  In my opinion, free speech should not include speech that incites riots or violence of any kind.  If a person wants to remain on that platform, they need to obey the rules.

It's quite simple. If Answermug is within its rights to ban or suspend people for what they post, then so are Twitter and other platforms.
